The
first occurrence of the Seton family in Ireland
was Sir Alexander Seton, who died in 1332.
He was the son of the famed Sir Christopher Seton
and Lady Christian Bruce, sister to King Robert I,
and he journeyed to Ireland with Edward Bruce in
support of his fight for that crown. Later,
Sir John Seton of Barnes acquired land in Ireland
circa 1625 from the Gordon's, and his son,
Alexander Seton, settled on the estate.
